Cirque du Soleil Produces Poetic Social Mission

MONTREAL – Cirque du Soleil, the artistic producer of the Moving Stars and Earth for Water event, today revealed the program details for the global artistic event as part of Guy Laliberte’s Poetic Social Mission.

Under the theme Moving Stars and Earth for Water, the Poetic Social Mission
took place on October 9, 2009 (GMT-4) in 14 cities around the world. For
120 minutes, the earth gazed at the stars and resonated to the rhythms
of artists and world-renowned figures demonstrated their commitment to
water and paid tribute to this vitally important natural resource.

14 cities on five continents… and space

The event took place in Montreal, Moscow, Santa Monica, New York City,
Johannesburg/Durban, Mumbai, Marrakesh, Sydney, Osaka, Tampa, Mexico City, Rio
de Janeiro, Paris, London and the International Space Station.

RDI, Le Reseau de l’information of Societe Radio-Canada acted as exclusive
host broadcaster in Canada and DIRECTV, the world’s leading provider of
satellite television, broadcasted the global artistic event in standard and
high definition on The 101 Network in the United States, and via DIRECTV Latin
America on channels 999 and 1004.
More personalities joined the list of confirmed participants: conservationist
Bindi Irwin, musical group Empolga as 9, singer Lila Downs and Nobel Peace
Prize winner Wangari Maathai.
