Kicking off the World Cup opening on 10 June, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. (GMT +2), at the newly-renovated Orlando Stadium in Soweto township, this historic three-hour live concert event will showcase the music, sport and visual pageantry of South Africa. The event will feature musical performances by Alicia Keys, Amadou & Mariam, Angelique Kidjo, Black Eyed Peas, BLK JKS, John Legend, Juanes, Shakira, The Parlotones, Tinariwen, Vieux Farka Touré, and Vusi Mahlasela, along with special appearances by past and present football legends, and will be broadcast to networks around the world for what is expected to be the greatest entertainment event to date on the African continent. All net proceeds will benefit “20 Centres for 2010”, the Official Campaign of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™.
